Felt Fabric Making

Necessary materials: Nako Keche, hot water, oil-based soap, tulle, bamboo service, cloth.

Spread nylon on the work area and place a bamboo service on it. Cut strips of wool of the same density and length and place them side by side and vertically on the bamboo serving. (To tear off neat strips of wool, gently pull from the end side with your fingertips. A hand-sized tear will suffice.)

After the top of the bamboo service is filled with vertically placed wool, place horizontal strips in the same way this time. Repeat this process in two or three layers, depending on the project to be done.

After completing the placement of the wool, cover it with tulle. Sprinkle an equal amount of water on the tulle so that it does not come to the edges. Press with your hands to feed the water and thus remove the air between the wools. After feeding the water to the wool, apply soap on it and feed it again with the help of your hands.

Curl the dry edges neatly using water. Put tulle on it again and press the edges by hand.

Lift the tulle and roll the bamboo service so that the wet wool inside is even. Wrap cloth around the bamboo serving so that it does not open and stays tight while rolling. Then start rolling the bamboo by pressing on it. Repeat the rolling process at least 400 times so that the fabric is smooth and the wools fit together well. Open the bamboo and change the direction of the fabric piece inside; Add water again and roll and repeat the rolling process 400 more times.

The more the fabric being formed is deflected and rolled, the better the result will be. If the fabric does not stretch when it is pulled from both sides, it means that the felting process has been completed.

Embellishment with a needle: If you want to make a flower motif on the felt fabric, first place a sponge (or brush) under it. Place the wool suitable for the motif of the flower to be made on it, and press the special felt needle and pass it to the fabric.

After the flower on the fabric is made with a needle, roll and roll the bamboo service again so that it fits well into the fabric. (Felt needle embellishment can be done on any fabric, when applying to another fabric, only the needle is used, no rounding is done. The more the needle is inserted, the stronger it will be on the wool fabric.)
